Do I need to consume Flaxseed oil?

Amar Jyothi Peruri, M.D. DABA

Lake Forest, Illinois

Yes!!! You have to take 1-3 tablespoons of fresh Flax oil everyday to ensure an adequate amount of essential fatty acids [EFAs.] in your diet. Best results are seen by consuming uncooked oil. The oil can be used on its own or mixed with food.

Flax seed oil is rich in EFAs. or vitamin F. EFAs. are essential for life, and since the body cannot produce them, they must be supplied by food. Dr. Andrew Weil [Health Food specialist] highly recommends the consumption of Flax seed oil for a healthy living especially for vegetarians.

Flax seed oil is better lasting than fish oils, less expensive and does not contain toxins. Both fish oils and Flax seed oils are rich in Omega-3 and Omega 6 E.F.A.S. Flax oil is the richest source of polyunsaturated alpha Linolenic acid. YES! 57% of Omega 3FA.

The Flax oil is preserved in non-reactive dark brown glass bottles to prevent deterioration from light. The glass container is also impermeable to oxygen. They should be stored in the refrigerator or the freezer to sustain their quality and richness.

The essential fatty acids of Flax oil are useful a) for cell oxygenation, b) for a healthy immune system, c) for proper growth, d) to prevent drying and flaking skin, e) while exercising, f) for maintaining good health, g) to prevent the formation of blood clots, h) to prevent oxidation of Low Density Lipoprotein [LDL] in the coronary vessels (blood vessels supplying the heart) and thus reduce the risk of heart attack. They are also known to increase High Density Lipoprotein [HDL, the good cholesterol]. In addition, they tend to decrease blood pressure. So, we must consume these fatty acids to maintain good health.
